If you're interested in beauty and want an exciting career in the industry this course will give you the skills and knowledge you need to become a fully qualified beauty therapist and provide treatments to customers in beauty salons and spas or to passengers on a cruise ship. You will learn a broad range of skills - including facials, makeup, eye treatments, waxing, manicures and pedicures - and provide treatments to clients in our fully equipped industry-standard beauty salons. You will learn how to deliver first class customer service and promote products to clients, as well as the importance of health and safety in the workplace, all of which will impress future employers and equip you for a dynamic career in the beauty industry or with the knowledge you need to progression to a higher level of study. To enhance your learning, you will also get chance to take part in enrichment weeks during which you will be able to learn new techniques, take part in competitions, and complete additional short courses in areas that would be useful to you in the industry, such as gel polish application, eyebrow enhancment, ear piercing or eyelash extensions. You will also complete 30 hours of work experience in a salon and attend lessons to improve your English and maths (or use the time for directed study if you already have Grade 4 or above).
What you need to get on
To access this course you are required to: Have four or more GCSEs at Grade 3 or above including English and math or Successfully completed a Level 1 beauty programme Undertake a salon skills session in which you will be required to meet members of the teaching team and demonstrate filing and polishing nails or carrying out a hand massage Purchase a beauty kit and college-approved uniform (details will be provided at enrolment).
How you are assessed
Learning a trade with tools and equipment, often in a college workshop or salon.
What this level means
The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.
