Textiles focuses on experimentation and development of ideas. It is a creative subject allowing you to develop areas of personal interest. Appropriate skills and techniques are taught such as surface pattern, decoration, printing, dyeing, and constructed textiles. It is an Art Textiles syllabus that we study, looking at both 2D and 3D forms. This can include studies in fashion, theatrical costumes, sculptures, artefacts, fabric designs, millinery, decorative pieces and conceptual fine art pieces. What you will do: • Research into a theme, context of textiles and selected artist, designers and craftsmen which will inspire you to develop a broader understanding of the context you have chosen to work in • Observe and record ideas, information and insights in visual and other forms, eg photos, drawing, collage, printing and notes • Experiment with different media and materials e.g. batik, tray dyeing, free machine embroidery, dissolvable fabric, knit weave, tyvek and schibori etc. developing a personal response to the theme. • Ideas will be selected, refined and developed to resolve problems encountered and to reflect a full aesthetic understanding • Make a final piece.
