A Level Art and Design communicates ideas and feelings forming a language that compliments other more specific, mathematical or factually based subjects. It increases visual and aesthetic awareness and promotes independence in the skills and qualities of imagining, problem solving, analysing and sensitivity. The method of working demands individual initiative and independence, thereby promoting personal responsibility and self-discipline. Through the opportunities and achievements it provides, you will experience satisfaction and enjoyment, together with increased self-esteem and confidence. As part of the full AS and A Level, you will become familiar with new media and processes, and develop a wide range of skills through experimentation. Throughout your studies you will consider the work of other artists, designers and creative practitioners. You will be encouraged to respond to a wide range of sources and there will be a clear focus on independent learning and the realisation of your own ideas with a final piece of work. Additional Opportunities An exhibition of work is mounted and externally moderated by a visiting moderator. Family, friends, students, staff and governors are invited to your exhibition day in the summer term, which is a prestigious and enjoyable event for all. An annual visit to art galleries in London is arranged and is recognised for its contribution to both the appreciation of art and design and to the development of skills and ideas in practical work.

What you need to get on

Our minimum entry requirements for September 2026 are six GCSEs at grade 6 or above, including English Language and Mathematics. Applicants must achieve Grade 7 or above in each of the subjects (or related subjects) that they wish to study at A Level.
