What the college says
The itself course consists of two distinct modules - they are: 1. Personal Investigation This is the practical coursework carried out over the TWO years and accounts for 60% of the final mark. Learners should produce two elements. A. A portfolio of practical work showing their personal response to either a starting point, brief, scenario or stimulus devised and provided by the learner or school. B. A related study, an extended response of a guided minimum of 1000 words 2. Externally Set Task This is an early release paper which will be issued on 1st February in the year of certification and will provide learners with a number of themes, each with a range of written and visual starting points, briefs and stimuli. Students are given at least three months preparatory time to plan research and develop ideas for their own response to the option. In a 15hour practical test the planning work is resolved into a final response which together with the preparatory work accounts for the remaining 40% of the marks. The first half term will consist of a number of observational drawing and printmaking exercises designed to deepen analytical skills and broaden technical knowledge and knowhow. The second half term marks the start of your own personal project theme based on a range of starting points including natural forms, self-image, dramatic lighting, mythical creatures and still-life. What you need to get on
The minimum requirement for the course is a GCSE Grade 5 or above. A Grade 5 in English is also desirable. The ability to work independently is particularly important in Art and Design as is an ability to experiment and take risks.

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
