Durham Johnston Art Department is offering the two-year linear Art and Design A-level, with the option of the AS qualification in year 12. The following titles are being offered. Art, Craft & Design (H600) through a broad-based course of study, developed through a range of 2D, 3D and time-based processes and media, drawn from disciplines from at least two of the other five endorsed titles in Component 1, with study of one or more disciplines in Component 2. Fine Art (H601) through the disciplines of painting and drawing, printmaking, sculpture, lens-based image making. Graphic Communication (H602) through the disciplines of advertising, illustration, branding, information design. Textile Design (H604) through the disciplines of textiles for interiors, fine art textiles. Three-dimensional Design (H605) through the disciplines of spatial design, product design, design crafts. Photography (H603) through the disciplines of film-based photography, digital photography, film and video.
What you need to get on
At least Grade 6 in GCSE Art or Photography and Grade 4 in English. Candidates who do not have GCSE but can demonstrate exceptional interest in pursuing A level Art and Design must produce a portfolio of work and arrange an interview with Head of Department. For continuation to Year 13 grades in Year 12 Art and Design need to demonstrate potential for A level success.
