What the college says
All students continue to study PE as a core subject in Key Stage 4 for one hour per week, and will participate in a range of sporting activities. Students can also choose to complete either a BTEC Sport or GCSE PE as part of their KS4 options. The BTEC Sport First Award will introduce students to topics including fitness for sport and exercise, practical performance in sport, the principles of personal training and leading sports activities. Students are assessed through a combination of practical performance, coursework and one external exam. Students who complete a GCSE PE will develop their theoretical knowledge and understanding of the physiological and psychological factors that affect performance and how socio-cultural influences impact peoples involvement in sport and wellbeing. Learning also includes the human body and movement in physical activity and sport. GCSE PE is assessed by a combination of practical work and examination.
