English Language and Literature is a very popular A-Level subject nationally, and with good reason, as students already possess key skills and an interest in the subject from Key 3 and GCSE studies, but it also offers something significantly different from the A-Level Literature course. English Language and Literature at A-Level integrates literary and linguistic study, encouraging students to engage creatively and critically with a wide range of texts, considering the way language choices create representations but also encouraging your skills as a producer and interpreter of language. Words create worlds, both in literature and beyond, and this subject offers the opportunity to explore this in depth.

What you need to get on

The minimum entry requirements for students are the best 8 GCSE grades, totalling 38 or higher. For example, two Grade 6s, two Grade 5s, and four Grade 4s. In addition, students also need to have secured a Grade 4 GCSE in Mathematics; with a Grade 6 in both GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature.

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
