A-level Maths provides students with a thorough grounding in the mathematical tools and techniques often needed in the workplace.The logic and reasoning skills developed by studying A-level Maths make sure the qualification is widely respected even in non-mathematical arenas. A-level Maths is made up of 3 papers - two thirds of the work is Pure Maths and one third is made up of Statistics and Mechanics.All papers are sat in June at the end of two years..The Pure topics which make up two-thirds of the qualification and provide the techniques in Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Calculus that form the fundamental building blocks of the subject.Mathematical applications make up the remaining third of the qualification and include both Statistical work and Mechanics. Mechanics: forces, energy, motion; Statistics: probability, data handling, testing hypotheses. A-level Maths provides a foundation for further studies in a variety of subjects including Science and Engineering
What you need to get on
As the Pure work builds on ideas met at GCSE level, it is essential to achieve a Grade 7 or better to begin the A level course. For Further Maths this needs to be a Grade 8 or better. Students will need to take an algebra entry test.

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
