The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Applied Science is intended as an Applied General qualification for post-16 learners who want to continue their education through applied learning and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment, possibly in the applied science sector. The qualification is equivalent in size to one A Level. Unit 1: Principles and Applications of Biology, Unit 2: Principles and Applications of Chemistry and Unit 3: Principles and Applications of Physics make up 50% of the course and are external examinations. The other half of the course constitutes internally assessed coursework and includes the units; Unit 4: Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques and Unit 6: Contemporary issues in Science.

Total point score of 30 or higher from best 7 GCSE's including English Language and Mathematics graded 4 or higher. 4 and 5 from Combined Sciences
