Unit 1 (internally assessed): Students will learn about the types of crime, what are the impacts of unreported crime and how the media represents crime. You will learn about how we can campaign for crime related changes and students will create their own campaign for change. Unit 2 (externally assessed): Criminological theories is there to teach students about the origins of crime; is it society or biology? You will delve into whether it is useful for external bodies to study the theories of crime and whether they can help us to shape policies for social change. Unit 3 (internally assessed): What is a crime scene like? How do we investigate crimes and process evidence effectively? Students will learn the process of criminal investigations including the processes in the actual trial. Students will use their critical thinking skills to review cases by looking for bias and the use of the media to assess the validity of the conviction. Unit 4 (externally assessed): How do we create new laws? How is the criminal justice system organised? This unit will assess students on how the criminal justice system works, the forms of punishment and how external agencies can influence social control. Students will draw conclusions about the effectiveness of punishment and how social control can be achieved.

What you need to get on

Standard entry requirements: Maths and English Language at a grade 4. Based on Attainment 8 scores we will offer the following pathways: Vocational Pathway (selecting only Vocational Courses): 40, Combination Pathway (selecting a mixture of A Level and Vocational): 45, A Level Pathway (selecting only A Levels): 50. Subject specific requirements: A grade 4 in English Language and Literature.
