What is Information Technology (IT)? IT is the study of the systems that are used to manage and share information personally socially and in business. For example, it is the relationship between the hardware and software that form an IT system, managing and processing data to support business and using IT to communicate and share information. Why study it? The IT sector is forecast as one of the main sectors for future job creation in the Tees Valley. In addition there is a national shortage of higher level IT skills. A particular shortage exists in people combining IT skills with Business and/or Creative skills. The study of creating IT systems to manage and share information, alongside other fields of study, will enable you to progress to a wide range of higher education courses, apprenticeships and employment not necessarily in IT.
