You will need to demonstrate a commitment to classroom-based academic study and be willing to undertake independent study outside of the classroom. Applicants who have never taken GCSEs before will need to undertake assessments at interview where you must demonstrate a proficiency in English (reading, writing and spoken language) and maths at a suitable level to be able to access the demands of the GCSE programme of study in one year. Suitability for the course will be assessed at interview through discussion and activities. The Academic Progression GCSE programme is specifically designed to support you if you have been home schooled or if your educational journey has been disrupted, leading to lower GCSE results than you have the potential to achieve. Each course will allow you to study GCSEs, develop personal skills and prepare you for your next steps in progression to A Level or Vocational areas. These courses have a variety of study options that have been designed to help you progress to your next step. Students can study a selection of GCSEs, including sciences, mathematics, English or humanities subjects.

What you need to get on

Achieve 3 GCSE's at grade 3 including English Language and maths.

How you are assessed

Entry level and Level 1 study, English and maths retakes, and supported programmes.

What this level means

The GCSE-equivalent step, and the usual route into Level 3.

Is it open to 16 to 18 year olds?

Not on the Section 96 list, but a school or college runs it full time, so check the age range with them.
