If you enjoy reading, but also love creative writing and exploring nonfiction texts too, this is an alternative to the Literature A Level. You’ll need to be a confident reader who is happy to complete the pre-reading of texts (including a novel, a Shakespeare play, poetry, as well as a nonfiction Anthology comprising spoken and written texts). We encourage discussion and collaborative working, as well as an interest in language and how writers and speakers use language to communicate.

What you need to get on

GCSE English grade (9-6) and Maths (9-4)) plus 3 GCSEs at grades 9-4. A grade 6 is essential in either English Language or English Literature

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
