This A-level builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills gained at GCSE. It constitutes an integrated study with a focus on language, culture and society. It promotes a range of valuable transferable skills including communication, critical thinking, research skills and creativity. The content is suitable for students who wish to progress to employment or further study, including a modern languages degree. The focus is on how Spanish-speaking society has been shaped socially and culturally and how it continues to change. Students will study aspects of the social context, together with aspects of the artistic life of Spanish-speaking countries, aspects of the social background and multiculturalism. Aspects of the political landscape including the future of political life in the Hispanic world by focusing on young people and their political engagement are also studied. Students will develop their knowledge and understanding of themes relating to the culture and society of countries where Spanish is spoken, and their language skills. They will use authentic spoken and written sources in Spanish. The choice of literary texts and films offers opportunities to link with the themes studied. You can watch Spanish TV and radio programmes on line at TVE.ES and complete a wide variety of interactive activities or complete the exercises at languagesonline.org.uk Spanish is a desirable support to all other areas of study. What you need to get on

To study A-Levels at MV16 you must have achieved a minimum of grade 4+ in GCSE English and Maths, plus 3 grade 5's in other subject areas and to include subject specific entry requirements where stated. To study Spanish you will need to have achieved a minimum of grade '6' in GCSE Spanish.

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
