In your first year, you will develop a broad knowledge and understanding of the core topics of modern psychology; social, cognitive, developmental, biological and individual differences. This will be followed by further specialisation in the second year. The course gives you an understanding of all the underlying themes and ideas in Psychology, as well as investigating the research methods that psychologists use. The subsequent study of social and cognitive psychology focuses on areas such as conformity, obedience, remembering and forgetting and attachment. You will also develop an appreciation of biopsychology and psychopathology. Psychology at A Level will give you a more detailed understanding of the issues and debates in psychology and includes the study of gender development, schizophrenia and forensic psychology.

What you need to get on

Students should have achieved a minimum of a grade 5 in at least two GCSE subjects from Science, Maths and English.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
