The Physics course is designed to give students a real understanding of how Physics can relate to real world experiences. The course offers a great foundation for future study and focusses on the key areas associated with this. You can also expect a good balance between theory and the supporting mathematics. There will also be lots of opportunities to develop Key Skills as well as practical technique. In the first year you will study five topic areas; • Measurements and their errors • Particles and radiation • Waves • Mechanics and materials • Electricity In the second year of the course you will go on to study a further four topic areas (one of which is optional), which build on the knowledge and understanding developed in year 1; • Further mechanics and thermal physics • Fields and their consequences • Nuclear physics Plus 1 optional topic Practical work is embedded throughout the units of work and you will complete a minimum of 6 practical activities in each year of the course. In addition to contributing to your understanding of the physics concepts being studied, these practical activities will also develop your skills in a number of procedures

What you need to get on

Physics is a demanding A Level course and we would expect candidates to have achieved at least a grade 6 in GCSE Physics or Combined Science Higher tier. We would also expect students to achieve a 5 in Maths and 4 in English. It is strongly recommended that you study A Level Maths alongside this qualification.
