Physics allows students to learn how to apply maths to real-world problems and explore new areas of study, perhaps more importantly, also developing skills that can be transferred to just about any other area of work, from setting up a business to saving the planet. Even if one doesn’t go on to become a physicist, learning to think like one will help get to the root of any problem and draw connections that aren’t obvious to others.

What you need to get on

Our entry requirements are five grades awarded 9–5 at GCSE/L2 merit or above at BTEC/CTEC equivalent including a minimum of GCSE Grade 5 or above in English & Maths. In addition, some subjects require a GCSE Grade 6 or above in specific entry requirements (see pages 12 and 13). For the A level programme a level 2 BTEC/CTEC Merit counts as an equivalent GCSE Grade 5.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
