You will be further developing some of the core principles covered at GCSE such as forces and electricity as well as new areas such as particle physics, quantum phenomena, fields and relativity. Physics is a linear subject, which means the assessment is at the end of A level (Y13). This includes theory assessment which is an exam, and a practical endorsement. In the practical endorsement you will carry out at least twelve practical experiments so you can demonstrate the use of a range of specific apparatus and techniques, including the use of ICT, as well as plan and execute experiments correctly. In physics you will study core content such as - particles & radiation, waves, mechanics and materials, electricity, further mechanics and thermal physics, fields and their consequences and nuclear physics. You will also have the opportunities to choose to study one optional topic from the following: astrophysics, medical physics, engineering physics or turning points in physics.

Minimum Grade 6-6 in Higher Trilogy Science GCSE, or 5-5 in Foundation Trilogy Science GCSE & Minimum Grade 5 in GCSE Maths

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
