SPECIFICATION A Level AQA Geography OBJECTIVES To develop students’ awareness of contemporary geographical issues + equip them with skills to benefit them beyond the A Level Geography curriculum. The syllabus ensures students develop statistical, graphical and cartographical skills + independent research and problem-solving skills to give them the understanding and aptitudes for study in higher education/future employment. A range of Physical and Human topics are studied which link to modern case studies. CONTENT Component 1: Physical Geography Water and Carbon - focuses on major stores of water and carbon at or near the Earth’s surface and the dynamic relationships associated with them. These are major elements in the natural environment. Understanding them is fundamental to many aspects of physical geography. This section specifies a systems approach to the study of water and carbon cycles – with a focus on the magnitude and significance of cycles at a variety of scales, their relevance to wider geography and central importance for human populations. Coastal Systems and Landscapes This focuses on coastal zones, which are dynamic environments in which landscapes develop by the interaction of winds, waves, currents and terrestrial/marine sediments. The operation and outcomes of fundamental geomorphological processes and their association with distinctive landscapes are readily observable. Again, a systems approach to study is specified. What you need to get on

Attainment 8 score of 60 (calculated from the best 8 GCSEs), including Maths & English Language to at least grade 5. Students must attain grade 6 in the subjects they will study. Where subjects haven't been studied at GCSE (e.g. Psychology, Economics etc.) then grade 6s in English and or Maths is expected. Students must attain grade 6 in Maths to study Sciences. Where students take more than one of Chemistry, Physics, Maths & Biology we recommend grade 7s in these subjects.
