This challenging course is for students who enjoy and demonstrate a high degree of competence in maths GCSE and want to extend their knowledge and understanding alongside A level maths. It's particularly suitable for you if you intend to study highly mathematical disciplines at university such as mathematics, engineering, the sciences and economics.

What you need to get on

You must have a GCSE grade 7 or above, although a grade 8 or 9 is desirable. Students are expected to be fully conversant with the following GCSE topics: Algebraic manipulation; Factorisation of quadratic and higher order expressions; Solving quadratic equations, including use of Completing the Square and the Difference of Two Squares; Manipulation of Surds, including the expansion of pairs of brackets and the rationalisation of fractions; Manipulation of indices. Must also take A-level Maths.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
