What the college says

"Cinema is not only entertainment: it's the art and cultural product of our time”. For anyone passionate about history, texts and images – and how to interpret them – film studies is the ideal course. It offers you specialist preparation for jobs in the cinema and media industries, as well as more general training in essential skills, from constructing an argument to practical criticism. We’re surrounded by narratives and pictures; film studies will give you the tools to understand and analyse them. The historical and cultural perspectives and analytical skills taught in film studies would complement a number of other A Level subjects, such as English Literature, History, French and Sociology. Hollywood will feature, but it’s not all blockbusters and popular franchises! You’ll be plunged into the depths of world cinema, documentary and take a trip back in time to where it all began; the Silent Era. If you are creative, inquisitive and passionate about film, A Level Film Studies is an excellent choice.
