The first year of your studies will include: Poetry: Component 1 (2-hour exam) - 30% Examples of texts could include: - John Keats – Selected Poems (Penguin Classics) - Carol Ann Duffy – Mean Time (Picador) - Philip Larkin – The Whitsun Weddings (Faber) Drama: Component 2 (2-hour exam) - 30% Examples of texts could include: - William Shakespeare – Hamlet (Penguin Classics) - Tennessee Williams – A Streetcar Named Desire (Penguin Modern Classics) - John Webster – The Duchess of Malfi (Arden) The second year of your studies will include: Poetry and Drama: these will continue from your first year. Unseen Texts: Component 3 (2-hour Exam) - 20% Examples of texts could include: - Prose Extract from 1880-1910 - Poetry from any era Coursework (3,500 words): Component 4 (Internal Moderation) - 20% This will cover two novels: one from pre-2000 & one from post-2000

What you need to get on

The most important entry requirement is that you are committed and determined to do well. You need to achieve a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, with at least two at Grade 5. These must include Maths and English. To study this particular A level you need to achieve Grade 5 in GCSE English Language and Literature (if studied).
