A Level English Language and Literature combined takes a linguistic approach to the study of literature. You will study a range of literary and non-literary texts to uncover how language is used for entertainment and public information. Utilising your newly acquired knowledge of grammar and word class, you will learn how to manipulate language for creative and functional purposes. Studying English Language and Literature will develop your skills of analysis and enhance your understanding or poetry, prose and drama.

What you need to get on

In addition to any individual subject specific requirements, students will be expected to have the following qualifications to be guaranteed a place on an A level programme: + 2 GCSE grades at 6 or above and 4 GCSE grades at 4 or above. GCSE English Language grade 5 and GCSE English Literature a grade 5.

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
