What the college says

A level English Language offers opportunities for students to create texts and reflect critically on their own processes of production, while analysing the texts produced by others. The course explores the study of English Language both as a medium of communication and as a topic in its own right, with an emphasis on the ability of students to pursue lines of enquiry, debate different views, and work independently to research aspects of language in use. English Language can be complemented by many other subjects such as English Literature, Sociology and Modern Foreign Languages.

What you need to get on

Our entry requirements are five grades awarded 9–5 at GCSE/L2 merit or above at BTEC/CTEC equivalent including a minimum of GCSE Grade 5 or above in English & Maths. In addition, some subjects require a GCSE Grade 6 or above in specific entry requirements (see pages 12 and 13). For the A level programme a level 2 BTEC/CTEC Merit counts as an equivalent GCSE Grade 5.

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
