English Language is appealing to students as it examines familiar texts from the real world including adverts, reviews, articles and speeches. You will have the opportunity to explore new genres such as Spoken Language, Language Change Over Time, and even language of Social Media. Lessons will focus on understanding how, and why language is used in specific ways. To do this effectively you will develop knowledge of key terminology which will enable you write in a concise and analytical style.

What you need to get on

Students should be aged 16 to 18 years old. You will need grade 5 in GCSE English Language and a grade 5 in GCSE English Literature (if studied).

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.

The A-level-equivalent step, and what universities and employers ask for.
