What the college says

A level English Language:This course is for students who read widely, are interested in current affairs, how language works and the effect that it has upon those who speak and receive it. Students will learn extensively about the building blocks of language, how language use is affected by purpose, audience and reception and examine language in 3 social context topics: Power, Gender and Technology. Students will study both spoken and written texts. Although much of the written work will be analytical there will be, in the production the coursework portfolio, the opportunity for writing creatively. Much of the reading/writing on this course will be undertaken independently, so students will need to be self-motivated.
