Why choose to study Design Technology?: You enjoy creative, practical challenging opportunities. You would like to follow a career path in a design or practical based subject such as Architecture or Engineering. What will I study?: The course will be split into two aspects. Theory lessons focus on the written examination content which will include work of past and present designers through to modern industrial manufacturing processes. All other lessons will focus on a design and make task over the two year course of the students choosing. What skills will I develop?: Problem solving through a design centred approach.Designing and drawing including the use of 2D and 3D Computer Aided Design. Manufacturing with a wide range of materials, tools and equipment. Opportunities: Students usually go to study University courses in Architecture, Engineering, Product Design or other design and manufacturing careers.

Grade 4 in 2 or more subjects (including Maths or English Language), plus subject specific requirements: Grade 5 at GCSE DT

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
