In year 12 the specification introduces the chemical reactivity of atoms and molecules and provides an understanding of their structures. At A level the specification develops the concepts of physical Chemistry introduced in year 12. Candidates study Kinetics, Equilibria, Organic Chemistry and Spectroscopic Techniques to determine the molecular formulae and structures of organic compounds. Unit 1: Foundation Chemistry Unit 2: Chemistry in Action Unit 3: Investigative and Practical Skills - Internal Assessment. Unit 4: Kinetics, Equilibria and Organic Chemistry Unit 5: Energetics, Redox and Inorganic Chemistry Unit 6: Investigative and Practical Skills - Internal Assessment.

What you need to get on

You need a minimum of 7 GCSEs at Grade A*-C, including Mathematics at a grade 6 and English at a grade 5. If you are a triple science student, you will need ABB, with a minimum of an A grade in Unit 3 for Chemistry GCSE. If you have studied Core and Additional Science an AA grade will be required with an A grade in the Chemistry unit.
