A Level Chemistry builds on the knowledge gained at GCSE and provides students with an understanding of why and how reactions happen. This course gives students the opportunity to analyse industrial applications and the behaviour of a broad range of known elements and throughout the year there is a focus on developing a pure Chemistry perspective. In Organic Chemistry, students study reactions and substances in a biological context and in Physical and Analytical chemistry they extend their knowledge of Physics. Data handling and Maths skills are also a focus, alongside logical thinking, scientific writing and the application of the processes and knowledge to unfamiliar contexts. Advanced level Chemistry will support biological or physics/engineering based courses, as well as opening doors to a wide range of chemistry-based courses.
