Chemistry is an exciting and challenging A Level subject. Studying A Level Chemistry is a route for some fantastic career opportunities in the areas of Science, Medicine and Engineering. Challenges facing society today can often be overcome with the work of chemists. Chemistry helps us to live more sustainably, contributing towards the development of renewable and low carbon energy sources. Synthesis of organic molecules can help us to develop pharmaceuticals and improve human health in a changing world. Practical skills are embedded within the course and are assessed as part of the practical endorsement of the A Level as well as in the written examinations. In addition to the development of practical skills in Chemistry, students will study Foundations in Chemistry, the Periodic Table and Energy and Core Organic Chemistry in the first year. In the second year students will study Physical Chemistry and Transition Elements and Further Organic Chemistry and the modern analytical techniques used in chemistry.

Five Grade 5s at GCSE and at least a 6 in two Sciences and a 6 in Maths

How you are assessed

Academic subjects, mostly exams, three or four at once. The traditional route to university.
