The study of Biology at A Level builds on the knowledge gained at GCSE and starts to look at the subject at a molecular and cellular level. In this course you will be inspired to have a deeper understanding of how the structure of biological molecules enables the formation of living organisms such as humans, animals, plants and micro-organisms. You will study: - How the structures of important biological molecules relate to their functions - The structure of the human heart, risk of developing cardiovascular diseases in relation to lifestyle and diet and the benefits and risks of modern treatments - Genetic diseases and the use of gene therapy as a potential cure - Sexual reproduction in plants and animals - Species and evolution - The natural environment and species survival - Forensic investigations and analysis of DNA - The structure of micro-organisms; diseases they cause and the process of cell recognition to trigger response by the immune system - Functions of muscles, supply of energy, exercise and coordination - Theories and appropriate methodologies to carry out a scientific investigation
